Why Bollywood?

Rochester Oasis Learning Adventure

What began as pure fascination with an eye-catching backdrop to an Indian meal has become my journey in trying to understand a rich, diverse culture through India’s regional film industries.

While I freely admit I have no business representing anything Indian, I can’t help but try to make others appreciate and enjoy this form of world cinema.

Since 2011, I have researched and screened for my classes over 130 films, at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at RIT, Oasis Learning Adventure and the Chautauqua Institute in 2014.

I am honored to write a blog for the George Eastman Museum’s website on the movies being screened at the Dryden Theatre for the exhibit “Stories of Indian Cinema" which continues into May 2018. The interest  has been fantastic and with 557 prints in the inaugural collection, I am sure film screenings will continue. There are two additional Indian movie collections that have recently been acquired.

Writing a blog is a rather daunting task as I want to engage you through the written word to feel the unbridled enthusiasm I feel for Bollywood (and other Indian film industries) so I started my first bog (Om Shanti Om--December 11, 2017) as if I was face-to-face with you and I wanted to convince you that you haven’t lived until you have embraced the Bollywood movie culture!  My blog has become somewhat more academic in nature in meeting the George Eastman Museum's expectations.

So, I welcome your comments, questions and suggestions and I hope you will follow my efforts on my new adventure as a Bollywood Blogger!
